William Sakkas

Beloved husband to the late Ismene (Chantilas) Sakkas, Bill fell asleep into the Lord’s arms on November 12th, 2021 in Lamia, Greece at the age of 87. Born on September 14th, 1934 to the late Christos and Evangelia (Kalogirou) Sakkas in Filiadon-Domokou, Greece. Loving father to the late Evangelia (Angie) Zimmerman and the late Christos Sakkas. Dear brother to the late Vlassis Sakkas, the late Thanasis Sakkas, the late Thomai Gerogoulas and the late Konsantinos Sakkas. Cherished uncle to many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He came to America in 1951 at the age of 17 and worked in his uncle’s ice cream parlor. Later in the 1970’s and 80’s he founded the Pickle Barrel and Chicago Gyros in Clifton. He was a staple to many in the Clifton area. He retired in 2000 and returned to Greece to spend time with his family there. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 2, 2021 starting at 10:00am until time of service at 11:00am. All services will be held at Holy Trinity St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church (7000 Winton Road).
