WILLIAM JOSEPH "BILL" MORGAN

OBITUARY

William Joseph "Bill" Morgan was born November 27, 1915, to Dora Kloker and William Morgan, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He passed peacefully on October 26, 2010, one month short of his 95th birthday, after sustaining a stroke the previous Thursday morning. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 68 years, Lillian "Lani" Hook Morgan, in January of this year. He leaves behind daughter Jacqueline Morgan and son-in-law Richard Smithers of Heath, Ohio; sister-in-law Maxine Hook Thomas of Cincinnati; brother- and sister-in-law John and Merle Hook of SugarLand, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill graduated from Hughes High School in 1934, and later attended University of Cincinnati Evening College, where he worked on the student newspaper, and met his future wife, Lani, at a school dance. They married on Christmas Eve, 1941, shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Bill was inducted into the army in July, 1942, and graduated from Officer Candidate School in State College, Miss., in March, 1943, receiving an appointment as 2nd Lt. He served at Camp Kilmer in New Jersey, rising to rank of Captain.

Most of his professional career was spent with the Cincinnati Transit Company (later Cincinnati Metro), where he worked in Public Relations, as Safety Director, Superintendent of Employment and Training, and retired in 1977 as Director of Operational Planning and Research. Morgan was also the Editor of the company newsletter, receiving national recognition, and served on the National Safety Council.

Bill was a long-time member of Westwood First Presbyterian Church, where he was active in a number of groups, becoming a Deacon and serving on the Board of Trustees and Elders. He was one of the organizers (along with Lani) of a seniors' puppeteers group that performed for preschool and elementary school groups, and he helped design a number of the props and sets. Bill and Lani shared a lifetime love of ballroom dancing and were well-known in area dance circles.

Memorial service is scheduled for Friday, November 5th, at 2 p.m. at the Margaret Jean Wells Chapel, Llanfair Retirement Community, 1701 Llanfair Avenue. A reception will follow in the Campus Center.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in William's name to Llanfair LifeCare Fund, 1701 Llanfair Ave., Cinti, OH 45224; Westwood First Presbyterian Church Celebration Fund, 3011 Harrison Ave, Cinti., OH 45211-5786; or Doctors Without Borders, P.O.B. 5023, Hagerstown, MD, 21741-5023.

Bill will be deeply missed by family and friends.
