Patricia S. Moore

January 15, 1940 — April 16, 2024

Patricia A., beloved wife of Donald D. Moore, loving mother of Cara (Jamie) Van
Steelandt and Adam Moore, dear sister of Sharon Keller, and step-grandmother of Steffan and Connor Van Steelandt. Aunt of Brian, Mark and Eric.

Passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. Age 84 years.

Family and friends are invited to a Visitation on Tuesday, April 23 from 10:00am until time of the Blessing Service at 11:30am. All services will be held at Dalbert, Woodruff & Isenogle Funeral Home (2880 Boudinot Ave.)

Patsy Ann, as she was called as a child, was born and raised in the Cincinnati
neighborhood of College Hill in a house on Groesbeck Rd with her younger sister Sharon. Born to Melvin and Dorothy Schweitzer, Pat was a quiet, precocious, and ever-curious child. She often enjoyed simply observing and analyzing her surroundings and the interactions of others. From a very young age, she showed strong interest in reading, ice skating, gardening, and the beauty of nature. Pat worked hard and took pride in her schoolwork, graduating from Hughes High School in 1958.

Having joined a church group with other young adults, she met her future husband Don. They greatly enjoyed cooking together and discussing their shared life philosophies and political views. Day and night, they were known to cook elaborate, untested meals and fancy desserts, often amusing her family by waking them up to the smell of food wafting into their rooms at all hours of the night.

Pat began working at Proctor & Gamble as a Typist and even entered and won 1st place in a typing contest. This titled her as the fastest typist in the city. With her strong sense of compassion and never ending thirst for knowledge, Pat chose to enroll in the social work program at the University of Cincinnati. She graduated in 1963 with a Bachelor’s degree in social work before going on to work at Children’s Home in Cincinnati where she interviewed potential adoptive parents and placed children in loving homes.

In that same year, Pat and Don married in a low key ceremony. They spent their honeymoon traveling and photographing the southwest, even hiking on foot down to Supai, a small village at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. In January of 1974, they welcomed their first child, Cara, with their second child, Adam, following in February of 1978. They took many trips together out west and to San Diego, California to visit Pat’s family. Her parents lived there along with her sister Sharon and her children. The whole family came to love traveling together, especially to see the family. As a mother, Pat shared her interests in nature, gardening, bird watching, and being outdoors. She instilled in her children just how much value there was in observing and enjoying the world around them. She raised her children to have strong work ethics, compassion, and empathy.

As a stay at home mom, Pat was further able to explore her passion and talent for cooking by proudly providing fantastic meals for her family. She further supported her children in their early schooling by joining the PTA. Here she made several life-long friends and countless contributions. She even performed in several PTA theatrical productions. She also took on leadership roles in both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and was enthusiastic about forming children into better adults by teaching them a wide variety of lessons and morals. She provided a stellar example to all and excelled at planning creative activities.

This ever devoted mother also took on the role as caregiver to her extended family. As her mother-in-law, and later several of Don’s cousins, became ill she took on helping them with cleaning their homes and getting their groceries. She spent many hours cooking and packaging meals for them. She spent time talking to them and helping out with tasks they could no longer perform. After those family members passed, she began volunteering as a tutor for several children at Westwood Elementary School
.
As Don’s illness eventually made it too difficult for him to travel, Pat increasingly became his ever-devoted caregiver. Pat and Don were inseparable partners in life….. and now in death.
