James (Jim) Matthew Kahles, born on September 15, 1949, in Cincinnati, Ohio, departed this life on July 11, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. After a long illness, Jim went to be with his Lord, embracing a belief that brought him great peace in his later years.
Jim lived a fulfilling life, dedicating much of his career to working as a buyer for McAlpins and excelling as a promotional salesman renowned for his ability to "sell sand in the desert." His engaging personality and gift for making people laugh created an enduring legacy among those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Jim was a wonderful man, filled with joy and vigor, who never knew a stranger, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He was a devoted partner to Jacqueline and a proud father to his sons, Jason and Matthew Kahles. Jim’s family extended to include Michael (Aymye) Miller, Jenifer (James Keeney) Peterson, David (Cassie) Miller, and Deborah (Anthony) Thacker, who brought him immeasurable joy. His heart overflowed with love for his grandchildren: Mikayla, Hannah, Ian, DJ, Tim, Brooklyn, Addison, Charlotte, Anna-Marie, Leland, Evan, Lillian, Isabella, Levi, and Vivienne. Grandpas are often known for spoiling their grandchildren, and Jim embraced this role wholeheartedly, providing them with every opportunity to participate in football games, dance recitals, and sleepovers.
Jim's home became a beloved gathering place in the neighborhood, filled with laughter, celebrations, and fond memories. He cherished the times spent with close-knit community families on multiple vacations, often reminiscing about these joyous experiences with a smile.
For many years, Jim found a special calling in being Santa's stand-in, bringing cheer to children and sharing the magic of the holiday season. He, along with Jacqueline and their "elf" Deborah, volunteered at local nursing homes, spreading smiles and warmth to residents during Christmastime.
Faith played a significant role in Jim’s life. In his later years, he developed a profound relationship with Jesus Christ, providing him with comfort and peace regarding life after death. Jim’s desire was not for sorrow in his passing, but rather for those he loved to celebrate his new life in Christ.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Peter L. Kahles and Sue Kahles (nee Henz) and his late wife Kathy Kahles (nee Noble). His legacy of love, laughter, and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the good fortune to know him.
Visitation will take place at the Dalbert, Woodruff & Isenogle Funeral Home in Cincinnati, Ohio, on July 18, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 7:00 PM. All are welcome to honor and celebrate Jim’s life, cherishing the memories he created and the joy he spread throughout his remarkable journey.
