Hannelore Schueler

Hannelore (Soederberg) Schueler, 95

Hannelore Schueler, known to many as Lore, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2023 with family by her side and her favorite music playing in the background. Hannelore was born in Wuppertal, Germany on April 6, 1927 to Maria Lauterbach and Alfred Günther. In 1933 she was adopted by her stepfather John Soederberg. In 1935, her parents and brother emigrated to America and a year later at 9 years old Lore quietly left Germany and traveled alone onboard a ship to be with her family in America. Hannelore attended Union High School in Union, New Jersey. As a young child Lore was determined to become a nurse. In 1948 she graduated from Orange Memorial Hospital in Orange, New Jersey and worked as a nurse in operating rooms all her professional life in Maine, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Florida, Indiana and Ohio. She became VP of Surgery at St Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio. She retired from St V’s in 1992 but continued to work another 6 years first as a consultant and then as Supervisor of Surgery at Welborn Baptist Hospital in Evansville, IN. Lore met the love of her life, Hermann in 1950. Also from Germany, Herman was an intern at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey. So began their love story and four children followed quickly. In 1965 the family moved to Toledo. A week after the move, Hermann died suddenly and Lore found herself alone with four small children. She decided to stay in Toledo, to honor the plans they made together. Family dinners and family vacations were a rich and important part of their time together. Lore led the family and pet Corgi along the road to adventure across the US and Canada from coast to coast in a travel trailer. In later years, Lore would think nothing of loading up her car with her Corgi and drive across country to visit one of the kids. Lore’s unwavering faith gave her great strength and comfort throughout her life. She was a courageous and devoted person, loved roller coasters and an occasional Manhattan. In her later years, she could be found sitting outside, enjoying the sunshine and fresh air. Lore loved animals, especially her Corgi's. They were wonderful companions and could not be called pets, they were part of the family.

Hannelore is predeceased by her husband, Hermann Karl Schueler; both of her parents; and brother, Harold Soederberg. Hannelore leaves behind her four children and their families, Barbara Gallagher of St. Paul, MN; Christine (Schueler) and Ray Stanford of Naples, ME; John and Lynn Schueler of Cinicnnati, Oh; Harold Schueler of Ada, OH; and grandchildren Eammon Schmitz, Kieran Gallagher, Anna Schueler, Adam Schueler, Lauren Schueler, Brittany Schueler and Christian Schueler.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 1:00 p.m. at Twin Towers Wilson Chapel, 5343 Hamilton Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio.
