Evelyn Hawthorne

Evelyn (Evie) Hawthorne age 87, passed away peacefully early on Thanksgiving morning November 24. She is survived by her daughter Melissa, her son Russell, her sister Margie, her brother Fred and his wife Nancy and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews.

This is our Mom,

Mom was the most selfless person we've ever known. She ALWAYS put everyone else before herself.  She was feisty but gentle, had a strong opinion about things, but always had an open mind. She was fair, generous, incredibly forgiving and an outstanding friend.  Mom was very witty, had a keen sense of humor and a great dancer!

She was a survivor and a fighter. She was our biggest cheerleader and fiercest defender.
Over the last few weeks, mom would often say to my brother and me “I love you more than life itself“
Mom, we are absolutely sure you’re now with dad, the love of your life, and just remember mom, ditto  “ We love you more than life itself“ and more …

Evelyn ( Evie)  A .Hawthorne was born on April 13, 1935. She came into this world a triplet; there was Esther, Ethel and Evelyn. Evelyn being the only survivor.

She spent a good majority of her younger years  growing up in Loveland Ohio. She met the love of her life Russ Hawthorne, when she was barely 19 years old and they were married October 13, 1955. For the next 65 years they would be together through good times (and there were a lot of those) and not so great times (and they were quite a few of those as well). My dad would agree that it was she who was his constant support, his rock.

Evie’s primary occupation her entire life, until the day she passed, was being a mom. She was great at her job! Her husband and her kids always came first… this never changed.

Thinking of our childhood, there is something very special about walking in the front door after school and yelling “mom?!!” Only to hear her say something like “I’m upstairs!“ Or “I’m in the basement“ it didn’t matter, as long as she answered!

Many many fond memories and a great childhood come to mind but one particularly, mom loved to dance and so did dad. It was nothing for them to move the coffee table out of the way, and now the living room floor was a dance floor! We would watch in Awe.  She taught me how to jitterbug!!

It takes a very special person to be married to a cop. Dad was a Cincinnati Police Officer and mom had to Endure long hours alone, shift work, etc. Not to mention that constant “what if“ feeling in her gut, due to the danger involved with his occupation.

Evie worked retail in a ladies clothing store for years to have something "for her” since she now had adult children on their own.  She survived breast cancer, not missing a day of work through all of her treatments and never missed an opportunity to play golf with our dad Russ

When you think of our mom, what comes to mind? I sit and look at a pictures now because I won’t see her anymore sitting in her bedroom in the morning, waiting for her coffee.

So now when I look at a picture, or remember her smile what comes to mind?  I think “this is what love looks like“

We love you and we miss you mom. But in the big picture, we’re right behind you
