Charles O. Carothers

Dr. Charles O. Carothers, 92, passed away peacefully, August 16, 2015. He was the devoted husband of Lucille “Twink” Carothers, father of Thomas (Annette) Carothers, Cole (Mary) Carothers and Lisa (Jeff) Morgan, grandfather of ten and great-grandfather of eight.

A lifelong resident of Cincinnati, he graduated from Walnut Hills High School, Williams College, and Harvard Medical School. After serving in the Navy, Chuck followed in his family’s footsteps and became the third generation to practice orthopedic surgery. This tradition continues with his son Dr. Thomas A. Carothers II and grandson Dr. Joshua T. Carothers. As well as a flourishing medical practice, he became an avid collector of Cincinnati artists of national renown. He fulfilled his passion for theater by serving as president of the board of the Playhouse in the Park for ten years, as a board member for the Ensemble Theater, and as a sponsor with Twink of the production of numerous plays. Chuck was the longest and oldest standing member of the Literary Club as well as the Cincinnati Country Club. With his friends, he enjoyed hunting trips to Georgia, fishing in the wilds of Canada, flying, skiing, sailing, golf, world travel, and playing bridge at the University Club. In short, he was a man for all seasons.

Friends are cordially invited to join his family in a celebration of Chuck’s life at the Cincinnati Country Club on Thursday, September 24th at 5:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ensemble Theater, Playhouse in the Park, Walnut Hills High School or a charity or your choice.
