There are not enough words that can describe our beautiful mom/Mama/Yiayia who was always there for us. Yiayia was an immigrant from Greece and came to the United States not knowing the language to make a better life for her family.  What a beautiful woman, spirit, and legacy that she left behind.  Yiayia believed in God as her Lord and savior and was a beautiful person with a wonderful heart.  She loved everyone especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchild.  John and Jimmy were her sons, and they were her heart.  A mother’s heart for her sons.  She always prayed for them.  She loved her daughters and was proud of them.  She loved Fran so much and knew that she would make the right decisions for her.  She loved Toni and loved talking to her about daily life.  Yiayia was someone who taught her children and grandchildren to always make the best of the worst situations and to always have your family’s back no matter what happens.  She wanted her family to know their heritage and where they came from.  She taught us to have enough room in our hearts to love those around us and to have a table long enough to feed everyone. Family and love were the utmost of importance to her.  She always said she would not move back to Greece because she could never leave her children and grandchildren.  She taught the importance of spending time with family and to not hold grudges because life’s too short and nothing is as bad as it seems.  She wanted people to show love and to help everyone, even our enemies. She taught us to treat people with respect and to do our best to become our best. She loved her family so much and wanted them to be truthful, honest, and hardworking.  She loved to cook for her family and would cook for an army because you never knew who would show up.  Any guest could not leave Yiayia’s house without eating even if they weren’t hungry. Cooking her favorite Greek foods for her family was something she adored.  She knew all her children’s and grandchildren’s favorite Greek foods and would make sure to cook it for them when they would come to see her.  Her Greek potatoes (a signature at every Holiday gathering), Greek Spaghetti, Dolmades and Kouloraki will be surely missed. No one could cook like Yiayia.  Our Yiayia also shared the same love with relatives, friends, and anyone else that she would meet.  She always made people feel comfortable and loved when you were around her.  She loved talking to people and hearing about people’s lives.  She would always pray for others and always wanted to get an update on how they were doing.  Yiayia was a hard worker and when she retired, she always dreamt of going back to work.  She loved to garden and be outside in the summer.  She loved to “piddle paddle” in her home and at her sewing machine.  We all grew up with Yiayia sewing something for us.  She also helped care for each of the grandchildren when they were growing up and we often teased her about who was her favorite.  She would always say I love all my kids and grandkids, and great grandchild. There aren’t enough words to describe Yiayia’s beautiful soul and the mark she has left on all our lives.  She was sweet like a mama bear, and strong like a lion.  Her memory and hearing were sharp, and nothing could get past her.  She had such a strong and independent spirit, and she wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. Yiayia was yiayia and there is no sweeter word to describe her.   We love you and will miss you so, so, so much.  Thank you for all that you did and taught us. We will miss you tremendously.  Love you Yiayia,  Sagapo Mama.

We thank all the people that loved our mom and all the medical people that helped take care of her throughout the years.  She loved you all so much.  Thank you for caring and loving on our mother.
