Patricia “Pat” C. Currence, beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love and prayer, on July 19, 2026, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was born on September 13, 1947, in Bluefield, West Virginia, a region that always held her heart, especially the mountains and cool breezes of her hometown.

Pat grew up on her family’s farm in Tazewell County, Virginia, enveloped by the warmth of many cousins and the beauty of rural life. The values she learned there, hard work, kindness, and loyalty, never left her. After high school, Pat embarked on a year of nannying with her aunt’s family in Enterprise, Alabama. Some of her fondest early memories were the sunlit days spent at the beach in Panama City, Florida, treasuring the simplicity of sand and sea.

An earnest student, Pat attended Bluefield State College, Bluefield College, Enterprise State Community College and Cincinnati State, always eager to learn and broaden her horizons. Her family lovingly recalls how she kept up with the latest news and maintained a curiosity about the world, which she later shared with her children.

Pat met the love of her life, Michael J. Currence, while working as a waitress at the Westgate Pharmacy in Bluefield. Their love story led them to Cincinnati after they married in 1971, beginning a partnership that would last more than 42 years and be filled with abiding love, shared laughter, and deep familial devotion.

As a homemaker and hardworking store clerk at IGA and Kroger, Pat was as diligent in her professional life as she was nurturing at home. She was the main chef of the family, delighting loved ones with her cooking, yet always ready to enjoy a meal out. Her quiet sense of humor, resilience, and generous heart touched every person who knew her. She often put the needs of others before her own, showing a selflessness that never went unnoticed.

Pat had many loves. She cherished jewelry, delighted in return trips to Virginia to visit family, and found joy traveling to historical sites such as Gettysburg, Monticello, Mount Vernon, Washington, D.C., and Colonial Williamsburg with Mike. Her love of history became a legacy she handed down, connecting generations with the stories of the past.

Her proudest accomplishment was always her family. She was the mother of two children, Melissa Currence and Greyson Michael Currence, and she loved many pets over the years, including numerous cats, a ferret, fish, hamsters, gerbils, and one adventurous dog who stayed for two memorable weeks.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved son, Greyson Michael Currence; her beloved daughter, Melissa Currence and son-in-law, Marc Younkin; her cherished brother, John Carter, and sister-in-law, Deborah Carter; her loving sister, Sandy East; and her adored nieces, Heather Carter, Ali Johnson, and Jessica East.

Pat was predeceased by her husband, Michael J. Currence; her father, Albert M. Carter; her mother, Nora Jean Blevins Carter; her mother-in-law, Elizabeth J. Currence; and her father-in-law, V.L. Currence.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance at a Memorial Visitation on August 1, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Dalbert, Woodruff & Isenogle Funeral Home, 2880 Boudinot Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45238, to honor and celebrate Pat’s remarkable life.

Patricia’s quiet fortitude, her loving spirit, and her dedication to family will echo for generations. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and gentle humor, a legacy that, like the mountains she so dearly missed, stands strong and everlasting.
