Obituary

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Joy Gavin passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the age of 86.

Joy was the devoted wife of the late William “Bill” Gavin, Jr., with whom she shared 62 wonderful years of marriage. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Henry and Julia (nee Schappacher) Haskamp; brothers Rev. Ed, Juno, Charlie (late Mary), Chick (late Pat) ; sisters Jean Rouse (late Bill) and Lori (late Fred) Steltenpohl.

She was the cherished mother of Lynn (Tom) Wehner, Keith (Kim) Gavin, Steve (Bev) Gavin, and Greg (Carrie) Gavin. Joy was the proud and loving grandmother of Kristie (Chris) Cahill, Tim (Kelly) Gavin, Matt, David, Samuel Wehner, Samantha (Dom) Schildknecht, Brent, Julia, Rylie, Luke, Sydney, Will, McKenna, Brooke, Alyse, and Madi Gavin, and great-grandmother to Clara, Tate, and Kate.

She also leaves behind her brother Pete (late Ruth); sisters Ruth Link (late Jim) and Caryl (Bruce) Woycke; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Born and raised in Reading, Ohio, Joy was the ninth of ten children and treasured a childhood filled with family, faith, and lasting memories. After meeting the love of her life, Bill, and marrying in 1961, she moved to the west side of Cincinnati where they built a beautiful life together and raised their family.

Joy was a dedicated mother who devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family. She spent many years volunteering at Our Lady of Victory, supporting both the parish and school community, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. Her greatest joy came from time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and she took immense pride in each of them.
