Jean M. Hicks, affectionately known as Jeanne, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on December 31, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on August 5, 1930, in Cheviot, Jeanne lived a life filled with dedication and love, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew her.
Jeanne was a proud graduate of Western Hills High School. On June 5, 1954, she married Donald Hicks at St. Martins Church, and together they shared a marriage that lasted 68 beautiful years until his passing. She embraced her role as a housewife and devoted mother.
Jeanne was a woman of many interests, often found enjoying her favorite soap operas and indulging in reading gossip magazines, including People and National Enquirer. She had a delightful sense of humor, often brightening the day with her charming sayings like: "The older I get, the colder I get" and “Okie Dokie” & “Oh, they’re a dilly.” Jeanne was known for her caring nature; whenever someone was unwell, she would thoughtfully bring them a chocolate malt to lift their spirits. Jeanne was a great cook and reveled in cooking not only for her own children, but for their friends as well.
Throughout her life, she created cherished memories during family vacations in Myrtle Beach and Florida and enjoyed the outdoors while camping in the RV with her husband. Her most profound pride came from her family; Jeanne raised 11 children, instilling values of love and togetherness that will continue to resonate within the hearts of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jeanne is survived by her loving children: Mark (Bev) Hicks, Robert (Liz) Hicks, Jan (Steve) Hale, Dean Hicks, Jay (Rebecca) Hicks, Curt (Leanne) Hicks, Gary (Gina) Hicks, Ron (Michele) Hicks, Joy (Joe) Neurohr, and Donna (Rick) Neville. She also leaves behind a legacy that includes her grandchildren, all of whom she adored.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Donald Hicks; daughter Paula Jones, siblings Burton (Anna Mae) Melzer, Marcy (Earl) Deavers, and Verne Lee Greer (Cotton); and her parents William and Mercella Melzer.
In honor of Jeanne's life, visitation will take place on January 5, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Dalbert, Woodruff & Isenogle Funeral Home, located at 2880 Boudinot Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45238. A blessing service will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 1:00 PM, with interment and final prayers to follow at Arlington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Jean M. Hicks will be remembered for her unwavering love, her nurturing spirit, and the profound joy she brought into the lives of so many. Her legacy will live on through the memories of her family and friends, who will continue to tell her story for generations to come.
