With deep reverence and love, we celebrate the life of James M Gebel Sr.—known affectionately as Jim—who departed this world on July 27, 2026, leaving behind a legacy marked by devotion, curiosity, and a quietly profound impact on all who were privileged to know him. Born on October 21, 1944, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Jim’s presence was a steadfast beacon from his first days until his final moments.

A proud son of Peter and Mary Agnes Gebel, both of whom predeceased him, Jim was sculpted by a family whose values of integrity and kindness shone brightly through his actions. These formative influences found their greatest fulfillment in the family Jim built and cherished.

Jim’s journey was one of relentless dedication, both in his vocation and within the sanctuary of his home. Serving honorably as a United States Navy Veteran, he embodied the virtues of commitment and service. This sense of responsibility carried seamlessly into his distinguished career as a respected Mechanical Engineer with the Proctor and Gamble Company, where he was known not only for his technical prowess but for the steady, humble manner in which he approached both challenge and opportunity.

Yet, to know Jim solely through the lens of career would be to know but a fragment of his story. He was a craftsman at heart, pouring countless hours of care and ingenuity into building rock walls and improving his homes—a physical testament to his tireless work ethic and to the joy he found in creation.

It was, however, within the embrace of family that Jim’s light shone brightest. He is survived by his beloved wife, Olga, whose partnership that spanned more than 60 years, was the foundation of a life shared in laughter, labor, and deep affection. His children, James Gebel Jr. and Angela Schrand, along with their spouses, Christine and Timothy, were the pride of his heart—a source of endless satisfaction and joy. Jim’s legacy endures most radiantly in the lives of his grandchildren—Nicholas, John, Mark, Tony, and Monica—each a living reflection of the values and warmth he so effortlessly imparted.

Memories of Jim’s lighthearted spirit are deeply woven into the fabric of his family. He possessed a unique gift for keeping things cheerful and light-hearted, meeting even the simplest daily conversation with humor and grace. This ability to uplift those around him, to turn toil into laughter and routine into memory, marked every gathering and every journey undertaken together. Family vacations—to Red River Gorge, Disney World, and especially to Hawaii, his favorite place to visit and explore.

Above all, Jim was most proud of his family and the life they shared—an achievement that far surpassed any personal accolade or professional success. It is in the relationships built and nurtured, in the ordinary moments elevated by his presence, that his enduring influence will be most felt.

Jim was a student of history and was known for saying: "I've forgotten more history than most people will ever know" He loved a good meal, a good conversation and a good joke! He also loved a good glass of chardonnay, enjoyed laughs and dinners with cherished friends and family and he loved parties.

As we bid farewell to Jim, we honor a life characterized by integrity, industriousness, humor, and a humbling love for his family. His was a journey well-lived, a story we hold dear, and a legacy that continues to grow in the hearts of his family.

A visitation will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Dalbert, Woodruff & Isenogle Funeral Home, 2880 Boudinot Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45238, offering an opportunity for family and friends to gather in remembrance and support. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 2733 Massachusetts Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45225. Interment will follow at St. Joseph (New) Cemetery, 4500 Foley Road, Cincinnati, OH 45238.
