Elizabeth Durrell, née Newcomer, passed away on October 1, 2026, at Traditions of Deerfield in Loveland, Ohio, on her 83rd birthday. She was born on October 1, 1943, in Huntington, West Virginia.
Elizabeth built a meaningful professional life as an occupational therapist. Elizabeth graduated from Western Hills High School and then received both her undergraduate and Master’s degrees from The Ohio State University in Occupational Therapy. She continued her education and received a Master’s in Montessori Education from Xavier University. She devoted her career to that field of Occupational Therapy, bringing knowledge, care, and commitment to her work.
She also found great joy in the natural world. Elizabeth loved the outdoors, especially hiking and exploring many parks and national forests. She was an active member of the Sierra Club - Miami Group, reflecting her appreciation for nature and her desire to remain engaged with others who shared that passion. She was also a longtime member of Westwood First Presbyterian Church.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Durrell Jr., and by her parents, James Newcomer and Virginia Newcomer.
She is survived by her sisters, Sue Burrick, Lynn Lanman, and Ruth Wilkes; also by loving nieces, nephews, and many dear friends who will remember her with affection and gratitude. Her warmth, her devotion to her profession, her love of the outdoors, and her steady presence in the lives of those around her will be cherished by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Thursday October 8, 2026, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Westwood First Presbyterian Church, 3011 Harrison Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio 45211. A funeral service will follow at 6:30 p.m. at the church.
If desired memorials may be made to the Miami Group Sierra Club or to Westwood First Presbyterian Church.
