Obituary

Eileen (Springmyer) Garrabrant passed away peacefully on Friday, May 1, shortly after celebrating her 97th birthday earlier that week.

Eileen was married for 55 wonderful years to the love of her life, the late Glen Garrabrant. The two met while attending Miami University, where they became proud Miami Mergers, Love and Honor. Throughout their lives, Miami University held a special place in their hearts.

Eileen devoted her life to education and family. She taught school in Columbus and Cincinnati and spent 20 years as a beloved substitute teacher in the Oak Hills School District. She cherished her students and often shared fond stories about them. Education became a family tradition with both of her daughters and two granddaughters following her into teaching.

Known for her bright smile, kind heart, and contagious sense of humor, Eileen brought joy to everyone around her. She loved nothing more than connecting with people—whether by phone or in person—and her home was always filled with laughter and conversation.

Family was the center of Eileen’s world. She especially loved time spent with her 12 great-grandchildren, whose visits filled her home with energy and love. As she often said, “The house is quiet until the family comes, and then it rocks!”

Eileen is survived by her devoted daughters Beth (the late Ern) Timperman and Susan (Daryl) Sroczynski; her five loving grandchildren Jennie (Mark) Chafin, Ashley (Robby) Reed, Kristen (Anthony) Dilisio, Brooke (Brad) Johnston, and Nolan (Natalie) Sroczynski; and her treasured great-grandchildren Ernie, Addison, Hudson, Kate, Colin, Elsie, Cooper, Hailey, Jace, Lila, Carissa, and Owen. She was preceded in death by her brother Ray Springmyer (the late Jeanne) and is also survived by her niece and nephews Carol (the late Mark) Immelt, Norman (Patti) Butt, and Todd (Marianne) Springmyer, along with many other loving relatives and friends.

Eileen had many angels in her life whose kindness and care she deeply appreciated.

Children held a special place in Eileen’s heart. Her parting wish was simple yet profound: Be kind to the many children in our world.

A lifelong member of Pilgrim United Church of Christ. Eileen’s faith was a cornerstone of her life.

Friends and family are invited to attend a Visitation from 8:30am to 10am on Saturday May 9th, followed by a 10am Funeral Service, all taking place at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 4418 Bridgetown Rd., Cincinnati, OH, 45211.

Interment prayers will immediately follow the funeral services at Bridgetown Cemetery, and the family would like to invite their guests back to the church for a continued celebration and meal.
