Edward H. Schmidt, known fondly as Ed, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026, at his home in Green Township, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 4, 1949, in Cincinnati, Ed lived a life marked by exceptional skill, dedication, and warmth that touched the hearts of all who knew him.
Ed’s remarkable career spanned 32 years, during which he distinguished himself as an illustrious mechanic and machinist in R&D at P&G’s Baby & Feminine Care MPL Facility.
Ed was a generous man with a green thumb for his beautiful garden, expertise from gardening to HVAC, plumbing, welding, machining and solar power, and laughter that brightened every room. He completed over ten vehicle restorations and held a lifelong passion for Ford classics like Model T’s, Model A’s, Thunderbirds, and Mustangs.
His warmth extended to family life, with each child and grandchild taking turns over the years joining him on the backyard swing to shell peanuts while drinking a cold beer and listening to the Reds. He was a master at tennis, playing every day during his lunch hour. All the kids and grandkids joined him in the garden to pick a multitude of different vegetables. Ed was famous among the grandchildren for sneaking endless pockets of M&M’s to them.
Ed was a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife, Connie (nee Mercurio) Schmidt; his sons Marc (Becky) Schmidt and Matt (Heather) Schmidt; his daughter Sarah (Matt) McManus; his 11 grandchildren, Eddie, Adam, Colton, Ethan, Ryan, Leah, Julia, David, Ella, Tommy, and Maria; and his brothers Gerry (Mary Lou) Schmidt and Bill (Martha) Schmidt. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Edward and Hilda (Kleeman) Schmidt.
Ed Schmidt’s legacy is one of extraordinary craftsmanship, unparalleled kindness, and deep familial love. His talents and spirit will be profoundly missed, yet his memory lives on richly in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 10am until time of Mass at 11 AM, all at St. Joseph Catholic Church North Bend. A reception will follow at Sugar Ridge Golf Club 21010 Stateline Rd. Lawrenceburg, IN 47025. Ed loved cars. Everyone is encouraged to bring your favorite car for his “Car Show”.
