Obituary

May 24, 1945 – September 26, 2026

Dorthy Ann “Dot” Lierman was a woman who did not simply live her life. She rode into it, with determination in her heart, a laugh close at hand, and a willingness to chase every dream that called her name.

Dot was born on May 24, 1945, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was spirited, independent, and never afraid to push beyond what was expected of her. She had a gift for making the difficult look possible, whether she was smoothly backing a horse trailer into place, caring for a patient in a hospital recovery room, running a farm, or simply finding another adventure to say yes to.

In 1979, Dot graduated from the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing and began a nursing career that reflected one of the defining qualities of her life: she cared deeply, and she worked hard. She served as a nurse at Shriners and later in the PACU at UC. She balanced the demands of nursing with raising her family, maintaining lifelong friendships, caring for horses, and making room for the life she wanted.

Then came Evergreen Farm.

In the early 1980s, Dot and her husband, Bob, moved their family to what would become the place so closely woven into the story of their lives. With dedication, determination, and plenty of hard work, they built a successful working farm together. At times, as many as 35 horses called Evergreen Farm home.

But Dot did more than board horses. She cared for them. She knew them. She noticed the details. She gave every horse entrusted to her the kind of extraordinary care that became one of the hallmarks of Evergreen Farm. The farm became a home not only for horses, but for people, friendships, memories, and a community that grew around her.

Her love of horses was lifelong. An accomplished English rider, Dot appreciated the beauty and tradition of the Fox Hunt at Camargo in Indian Hill. She shared her passion freely with her sons, grandchildren, friends, and the wider community. Horses were never simply an interest for Dot. They were part of the language through which she experienced the world: with freedom, grace, courage, and a little bit of mud on her boots.

She was also a woman who believed in working hard and doing things for herself. She instilled that same work ethic in her sons, sometimes reminding them, with a smile, that they could thank her for their strong hearts and stamina.

And yet, for all her determination, Dot knew how to enjoy life.

She loved to laugh. She loved to dance. She especially loved dancing with Bob, her best friend and beloved husband. Together they built a life full of love. One of the great celebrations of that life was their 50th wedding anniversary, when they were surrounded by the people who loved them, a fitting tribute to a partnership that had weathered and welcomed over five decades together.

Dot also believed there was a big world beyond the farm, and she wanted to see it. She traveled, explored, and embraced the extraordinary. Among her adventures was an unforgettable safari in Africa, one more dream she made real because that was simply how Dot lived.

She did not wait for life to happen to her.

She made things happen.

Dot achieved every dream she set for herself, not because life was always easy, but because she had the courage and determination to keep moving toward what mattered.

She leaves behind a family who will carry her spirit forward: Chris Lierman; Molly Lierman (Hatting); Alex & Alex Lierman; Sarah Montgomery (Lierman); Mitchel Montgomery; Jeff Lierman; Mary Rose Lierman (Held); Hannah Held; Tyler Held; TJ Lee; Julia Kathman (Lierman); Kody Kathman; Andrew Kathman; Michael Lierman; Tyler Wolfe; Axel West; Levi Lierman; her sister Rainy; Buck Buckman; her brother Walt Dickhaus; and sister-in-law Sharon Dickhaus.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert “Bob” Lierman; her brothers, Carl and Larry Lierman; and her sister-in-law, Judy Dickhaus.

But perhaps most of all, they will remember Dot as someone who lived with intention.

She left hoofprints, fingerprints, and heartprints everywhere she went.

Dorthy Ann Lierman lived fully.

She loved deeply.

She laughed often.

And she left this world having made it a little more beautiful, a little more spirited, and a great deal more memorable.

A life well lived. A woman deeply loved. A legacy that will keep moving forward.

A memorial visitation celebrating Dot’s life will take place from 10 am until time of memorial service and Cincinnati Nurses Honor Guard ceremony at 12 pm, all at Dalbert, Woodruff & Isenogle Funeral Home, 2880 Boudinot Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio.
