David J. Guidugli, lovingly known as “Guypa,” passed away on September 5, 2026, in Kenton County, Kentucky, at the age of 77. Born on September 20, 1948, in Cincinnati, Ohio, David faced his final days as he lived much of his life: fighting until the very end with a positive attitude.

David was a proud graduate of Newport Central Catholic, Class of 1966. He continued his education at the University of Kentucky, graduating with the Class of 1971, and later earned his master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati. He devoted his professional life to education, serving as a teacher at Newport High School, Boone County High School, and Holmes High School. Over the years, he taught History, Geography, and Special Education, and he carried a lifelong passion for athletic training. Through his work in the classroom and in athletics, he made a profound impact on countless students and athletes, encouraging them to grow, work hard, and become the best they could be.

David’s presence was unforgettable. He was larger than life, with a big heart that matched his generous spirit. He loved teaching and mentoring, and he found great joy in sports training and in spending time with his family. He loved to dance, attended all kinds of sporting events, loved boxing, and was a faithful supporter at his sons’ and grandchildren’s sporting events. Among his many memories and stories, he was also proud to have won the Toughest Man Contest. He enjoyed traveling, attending Italian Festivals and was proud to be a member of the Sons of Italy.

Nothing meant more to David than his family. His sons and grandchildren were, far and away, his greatest accomplishment.

David’s family includes his sons: Gino (Michelle) Guidugli, Bay (Mary) Guidugli, Ben (Carla) Guidugli and Tony (Cam) Guidugli. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Ryland, Ezra, Willow, Oakley, George, Louise, Dolly, Birdie, Petey, Benjamin, Bella, Beau, Brooke, Barnabas, Bethany, Audriana, Gianna, Carmella, and Gabriella. He also leaves his former spouse, Sherry Guidugli, née Bowling and his sister Lou Ann (Greg) Brauch; his brother Tom (Jenny) Guidugli; and his sister Margie; his sister Terri (Ray) Bridewell; and his brother Paul (Rhonda) Guidugli.   

David’s love for his family was evident in the way he showed up for them, celebrated them, and took pride in every milestone and every game, always making his presence felt with warmth and enthusiasm.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gino Guidugli, and his mother, Mildred Guidugli, née Bird.

A visitation will be held on September 10, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at The Holy Spirit - St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church, 825 Washington Ave, Newport, KY 41071, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at 12:30 p.m. at Saint Stephens Cemetery, 1523 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, KY 41075. A Celebration of Life will also be held at 12:30 p.m. in the Gymnasium at St. Stephen’s Holy Spirit Parish, located across the street from the church, at 825 Washington Ave., Newport, KY 41071.

David J. Guidugli will be remembered for his energy, his heart, his devotion to family, and the lasting difference he made in the lives of students, athletes, and all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and in the many people he inspired.
