In Loving Memory of Arlene A. Thorwarth

Arlene A. Thorwarth, a cherished community member, and dedicated volunteer of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away on August 3, 2026 at the age of 92 leaving behind a legacy of compassion, service, and warmth.

Arlene had a passion for learning, civic involvement, and nature. She maintained ties to the University of Cincinnati, where she worked for many years as the Executive Secretary to the President.

Her love for protecting wildlife and habitat shone bright through her tireless volunteer work and generous financial support dedicating innumerable hours to the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden - specifically CREW (Center for Reproduction and Endangered Wildlife).

Throughout her life in Cincinnati, Arlene was deeply committed to making a meaningful difference in her community. A woman of faith, she served as an Elder in the Presbyterian Church and consistently stood as an advocate for social justice, equity, and peace. In her later years, she was an active congregant of The Gathering where all people of faith - or no faith - are welcomed and celebrated. Her involvement with The Gathering had a special focus on helping homeless youth end their cycle of poverty and hopelessness. Arlene also loved the Cincinnati Reds!

Arlene was predeceased by her parents Clarence and Florence (nee Voegtle) Thorwarth of Cincinnati, Ohio, and her close friend Jean Hodil whom she met while working at the YWCA of Greater Cincinnati. They traveled the world, enjoyed Opera and the Arts and started a Critter Care (pet sitting) business together.

She is survived by her sister Janet (Carl) Linkinhoker of Schenectady, NY, three nephews Steven (Kim), Jeffrey (Reena), Michael (Aline), and four great-nephews Daniel (Alana), Jesse (Olivia), Ethan, and Tyler. Arlene is also survived by one of her best friends and Clifton neighbor Helga Bucher who helped Arlene in so many beautiful ways.

Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life in Memory of Arlene on September 10, 2026 beginning at 2:00 PM at Llanfair Retirement Community, 1701 Llanfair Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45224.
